Everyone’s favorite! Nanny would make these pies for any special occasion.
Bake the pie shells till light brown.
Beat the egg yolks and add milk
Sift sugar, flour, cocoa and salt together and place in the top of a double boiler
Add just enough milk mixture to the dry ingredients to make a smooth paste, then stir in the rest
Cook until the mixture thickens
Remove from the boiler and add vanilla and butter
When cooled, add to the cooked pie shells.
Top with meringue and bake at 325° until the peaks are lightly browned
Beat the egg whites until stiff. Add sugar
